Early Medals for World Class Triathletes
Sunday, 6th March 2005
It is that time of year when cross country and triathlon come closest together, and this weekend Great Britain's World Class Triathletes found success in both. Michelle Dillon opened her season with a win in the Luke Harrop Memorial Triathlon on Australia's Gold Coast, Wales' Commonwealth Games prospect Helen Tucker for a British one-two.
In the men's race, Stuart Hayes ran into 3rd place with Scotsman Fraser Cartmell snapping at his heels in 4th, 32 sec behind winner, German Olympian Maik Petzold.
Meantime, Nottingham's parklands saw Adam Hickey secure his place on UK Athletics' World Cross Country Team, with 2nd in the Under 17 category of the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, with fellow World Class Potential Triathlete Alistair Brownlee joining him in the top 10 in 8th place. The U20 category saw Rosie Clarke home in 15th place, reversing the tables on Vicky Holland (29th) from last week's triathlon time trials, with Oliver Freeman 16th in the men, ahead of duathlete Garry Hughes (23rd) and Freeman's partner Todd Leckie (31st). World University Triathlon Champion Helen Lawrence took 20th in the senior women, with South West World Class Start triathlete Yasmin Smith an excellent 26th in the U15 girls.
