TCR05
Sandown Park, 12-13 February, 2005
Whether new to triathlon or a seasoned competitor, a visit to Triathlon Cycling and Running 2005, ensured you were ready for the challenges ahead of you.

There was plenty of the latest tri gear available from 100s of exhibitors and the benefit of the expert advice on offer from top coaches and athletes in the seminar programme.

TCR05 was interactive, with many events taking place across the weekend. Here are a few highlights ......

Giant Bicycles Test Track
There was a chance to brave the cold and try out the latest bikes from the Giant 2005 road range on their 1KM loop within Sandown Park. The highlights from Giant were their new composite framesets, the TCR Advanced and the TT Frameset. They were also showing a TCR Advanced frameset, cut in half, to show the reasons why these are quite so light! There doesn't appear to be any carbon!

Ironman Wetsuits Swim Zone
At TCR05 you could improve your swim technique and get your stroke analysed in the Ironman Wetsuits Swim Zone.
Tri and Swim, in association with Tri and Run and Ironman wetsuits, allowed guests to try the latest suits from Ironman while having their stroke analysed by qualified coaches.

The swim was also displayed on a huge screen above the Endless Pool for all to see.
The Quintana Roo Indoor Triathlon
500m on a concept 2 rower, 2km on a QR bike/Tacx trainer and 750m on a treadmill gave an excellent opportunity to test your start of season fitness. HS Sports provided state of the art timing and prizes were provided by QR and Science in Sport.
EAS Indoor Time Trial
The chance to compete on a 5k virtual course against three other riders on a Trek bike Computrainer combination was a serious challenge for TriSportNews the day after our warm weather training camp. A big screen showed riders relative positions as they raced for the best time of the weekend in their age group.

Runner's World 10K Run
Stephen Bayliss won Sunday's 10k run round Sandown race course (out of almost 600 competitors) over both turf and tarmac in three laps in view of the grandstand.

British Cycling's Go Ride
The kids took part in British Cycling's Go Ride Feature and the brand new range of junior road bikes were on display from Pennarola and Giant. Very cute! And a very good reason to have children!
Fulcrum Wheels launch at TCR05
Market leader Campagnolo has teamed up with a group of aerospace engineers with a passion for cycling to develop a truly exciting new range of cycle wheels. The range features 3 wheelsets, with the Fulcrum 1 in direct competition to the ever popular Mavic Ksyrium SL. We are keen to get a pair on test shortly to give the low down on how they stack against Mavic.
New Cross Brand Trial Packs from Fuel
Want to know which nutrition brand suits you best? The new Cross Brand Trial Pack available on the Fuel Triathlon stand offered you a low cost opportunity to try energy drinks, bars and gels and also a range of recovery drinks and bars from a range of brands. This is an excellent idea and has been very much needed in the market. With such a wide range of products now available, it is now the time to try these packs to find out what works for you. It is too late to try on race day!
Boreas - New for 2005
USE, distributors of Boreas, the Danish brand of high end aluminum alloy bike frames, introduced its new model the EOS. Carrying the same exclusive design features as the rest of the range, namely the barrel shaped head tube, bottom bracket shell (for extra stiffness and speed) and custom drawn butted tubes the EOS incorporates as a package carbon forks and Cane Creak headset for stunning RRP £595. This represent real value for money from a well respected manufacturer. We have one due on test soon. For more info www.boreas-bikes.com
