First Impressions - EAS Energy
Wednesday, 6th July 2005
Trisportnews is pleased to announce that we have a number of product trials underway with EAS.
EAS are widely known as a premier sports supplements company, historically more for fitness and power based sports, but they are using their expertise to enter the endurance sports market. They currently sponsor Sale Sharks (Rugby) and Everton Football club. In line with their push into the endurance market, a new world class athlete has also joined their rosta , Nichole Cooke, who is one of the best road riders that the UK have produced and has won a host of prestigious European races including the womens Giro dItalia.
EAS have, over the years, been credited with taking many athletes to the top of their respective sports in power based events, such as weight lifting, body building and gym based fitness events. But the product line has not appealed much to the endurance athlete due to the majority of the products having been aimed at weight-loss and lean muscle growth. EAS have developed the Body-For-Life programme which encourages participants to reduce their fat percentage while gaining strength and fitness through a carefully engineered framework of exercise and nutritional values, supplemented by EAS shakes, bars and supplements.
It must be noted however, that it has been possible in the past to pick up specific products that would benefit endurance athletes from the EAS range. This is because the EAS marketing has not really been targeted towards the endurance athlete.
Things at EAS have continued to evolve into new markets and they have launched a full rage of products to directly compete with the likes of Science in Sport, who have a range of drinks that support you, before, during and post exercise.
The range is called Energy and comprises of the following elements:

We have enough product to complete a full 2 week trial during a full programme of training and racing. We will report back once the trial has completed, however, here are our first impressions.
First impressions
The products are certainly very palatable, although slightly sweeter than Gatorade; they are not as sweet as Science in Sports PSP22 or GO. A good compromise we think.
During the very hot weather recently the ISO drive powder was a very welcome drink as there was no aftertaste and no bloating, it appeared to leave the stomach very quickly and only took a few minutes for you to start to feel refreshed.
The Gels, in their double serving packs is a neat idea and means that you do not have to take too much with you on rides.
Myoplex bars are more like the old style Powerbar in the consistency, however they are very tasty and again do not leave much of an after taste or any stomach discomfort.
The last product we tried in the first few days of the trial was the Recovery Max Powder. This takes the form of a milk shake (although made with water) and is a refreshing alternative to yet another bottle of isotonic drink, post exercise. The added benefits are that there is a balanced dose of carbs and protein to immediately get to work on rebuilding the damage caused by training, to get you fit again for the next session.
On initial testing EAS look to have brought a very competent range of products to the UK market and we very much look forward to testing the Quick Kick Tablets and the Carb Loader.
