Stephen Bayliss - The Czechman

Monday, 18th July 2005

Dear all,

Another successful weekend, I travelled out to the Czech Republic for there ITU Long Distance Series race, The Czechman.

I have just trained through this race once again so thought I may be a little tired and wasn't especially confident of winning.

Anyway a quick rundown of my race:

Good swim out with a group in 4th place a little down on the first 3 guys.

Bike was good and came off in 2nd with quite a few others close behind, 50sec down on the leader.

Started the run and felt really good, caught the leader within 4km, then paced myself, then gave it everything in the last 5km to open up a winning margin for 3min 30secs over 2nd place.

The race was on Czech TV! I should get a copy sent to me; I will for sure get some good coverage.

A great win and now I am currently leading the World Long Distance Tour!  with 3rd at the Euros, 1st in Czechman, if I can have a good race at the Worlds in 3 weeks then that will be the final race of the tour.   I will finish with a High World Ranking.
