Team Wales Name Commonwealth Games Spots

Friday, 7th October 2005

Leanda Cave, Anneliese Heard and Helen Tucker are the first Welsh triathletes selected for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

There could also be a place in Team Wales for Bridgend's Marc Jenkins who has had an ongoing battle with deep vein thrombosis.

Team manager, Steve Trew said "We will be setting out the parameters for Marc Jenkins and his qualification criteria over the coming weeks and we are confident that he will be ready to take up his position."

Cave, 27, was the 2002 world champion and is the reigning Commonwealth silver medallist. Heard, 23, is a double world junior champion, and 21-year-old Tucker has impressed this year with a European U23 medal and two ITU World Cup podium places.

The next generation of Welsh Performance athletes may well begin their journey at an open Talent ID Day tomorrow (October 8) at the Wales National Pool, Swansea. Full details can be found on the Welsh Performance Page.
