Trek Heads To the Ironman
Monday, 10th October 2005
With the entire world of triathlete fans and competitors all focused on this weekend's Hawaiian IronMan world championships in Kona, Trek is proud to unveil their largest triathlon effort ever. For 2006 Trek has created an entire line of triathlon bikes which is highlighted by the radical Equinox TTX. This is a brand new design that pairs the best of Trek's proven Tour de France and triathlon specific technology for the single-minded goal of creating the fastest and most efficient Tri bike possible. A one-off, pre-production Equinox TTX will be raced at the IronMan by two-time IronMan winner Tim DeBoom. Besides Tim, other Trek athletes will include:
- 2005 IronMan Canada winner Chris Lieto & his Trek TTX.
- 2004 Kona top American Cam Widoff & his Trek Equinox 11.
- Triathlete legend Karen Smyers & her Trek WSD Equinox 7.
Trek is always looking to offer the best Triathlon products on the planet. The entire line of Equinox triathlon bikes are built at the Trek factory in Waterloo, Wisconsin and use two of Trek's most celebrated proprietary materials: OCLV Carbon and ZR9000 aluminum. Multiple trips to the wind tunnel with Lance and Tim DeBoom have proven the aero advantages of Trek Tri frame design. You'll find five different models of Trek Tri bikes at your local dealer, starting with the entry-level Equinox 5 which is priced at just $1320.
At this year's event, former national champion Chris Lieto will be aboard a soon to be produced Trek TTX which is the same bike that Lance used to help claim his seventh Tour de France. Although not a Tri specific design, the TTX was a proven winner in the time trial stages of the Tour.
The new era of triathlon design will actually be found underneath Tim Deboom as he tries to win a third IronMan aboard a (very) pre-production prototype of our newly designed Equinox TTX. Tim's bike is still so new that Trek are not even sure when it will become a production bike. But just as Trek has proven with Lance Armstrong and the Madone road bike, there's no better way to test and develop new technology than to have the world's best riders race the bikes and provide their invaluable feedback.
