Two-time Ford Ironman World Champion Tim DeBoom (Lyons, Colo.) will compete in the 2005 Soma Triathlon set to take place on Sunday, October 30 in Tempe, Arizona, USA.
The Soma Triathlon is expected to feature more than 1,350 athletes from around the world at two different distances. Last year's event saw multiple-time Ironman winners Heather Fuhr (Canada) and Chris Legh claim the women's and men's titles respectively.
The event will feature a half-Ironman distance (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run) and a ¼ Ironman distance event (1000-meter swim, 28-mile bike and a 6.5-mile run).
One of the top triathletes who compete at the Ironman distance, DeBoom posted victories at the Ford Ironman World Championship both in 2001 and 2002. DeBoom has been a top contender around the world for a number of years, finishing third at the Ford Ironman World Championship in 1999, second in 2000 and posting Ironman wins at Ironman New Zealand (1999) and Ironman California (2001).
The 34-year-old joins a strong men's field at the Soma event, which features defending Soma Triathlon champion Chris Legh (Australia) and 2003 Ford Ironman USA Coeur d''lene champion Michael Lovato.
"Our men's field has taken a quantum leap in quality this year," said Soma Triathlon Race Director Jeff Suffolk. "Any time you get a two-time Ironman Champion like Tim competing it elevates the entire event."
