Marc Jenkins Added to Welsh Team
Saturday, 14th January 2006
Marc Jenkins has been added to the triathlon team to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne having been sidelined in the sport due to a deep vein thrombosis.
The 29-year-old from Bridgend has been cleared to compete having been diagnosed with DVT last May for which he was prescribed blood-thinning medication to help the blood clots disperse.
Team manager Steve Trew said: "We're extremely happy to be able to announce that Marc will be joining the squad bound for Melbourne."
"He has performed at the top of his sport for over 10 years - both at junior and senior level and has invaluable major Games experience having performed at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and at the Athens Olympic Games."
Jenkins demonstrated his competitive spirit at the Athens Olympics last year when a collision left him with a broken wheel and without a thought of retiring he put the bike on his shoulder and ran two kilometres to the next wheel station.
Mark joins Helen Tucker, Leanda Cave and Anneliese Heard on the Welsh team.
