Easton EC70 Seat Post

Sunday, 19th February 2006

Superior fatigue and impact strength Easton makes a huge range of products, not only for the cycling market but also for ice hockey, archery and baseball.  Their cycling range is predominately carbon but also has a lower range of alloy-only products.

The EC70 Carbon post sits right in the middle of Easton's seat post range, and is their entry level carbon offering.  The shaft is carbon with an alloy head.  Weight is a very reasonable 185 - 225 grams (depending on size) and the post comes in a huge range of sizes and lengths, 250mm, 300mm, 350mm lengths and diameters from 26.8mm to 31.6mm to accommodate almost every frame available.

The carbon post looks a fairly simple design.  However, it incorporates Easton's RAD (Relief-Area Design) technology which protects against over clamping.  The result is a thin flat down the back of the post which disperses the clamping load if the seat clamp is tightened too much.  It also uses Easton's Taperwall technology which places more material at points where greater strength is needed while less material is used at other sections to save weight.

New multi-adjustable, lightweight head design The benefit of the Easton EC70 clamp design is that the adjustment screw is set far enough back to be able to easily adjust; it provides a small amount of fore and aft adjustment as well as the usual tilt.

The clamp is a single bolt affair and provides a firm grip on the rails without needing to crush your favourite saddle's rails to keep it tight.

So far we have ridden approx 1500km on the post and it has performed faultlessly.  It has been cleaned regularly and re-greased twice since its installation.  Furthermore it has kept its appearance and hasn't slipped once.

The ride is why we change a seat post and the ride provided by this post, combined with a Fizi:k saddle, ironed out all the road buzz, while still providing a firm, supportive ride.  This was a very noticeable change to the alloy post that our test post replaced demonstrating that technology in something as simple as a seat post really can make a difference to your ride if applied in the right way.

Overall Easton has produced another quality, light piece of kit that would provide years of trouble free cycling.  With the great range of sizes the Easton EC70 should fit any frame, and the longer 400mm length will also allow fitting to the most compact frames.
