Silver Medal for Scot Catriona in World Duathlon Long Distance Championship
Monday, 29th May 2006
In a terrific effort Scot's triathlete, Catriona Morrison earlier today, in Frederica, Denmark came close to winning gold at the World Long Distance Duathlon Championships. In a close struggle with Dutch Athlete Yvonne Van Vlerken after nearly 4 hours of the gruelling racing Catriona had to settle for a second spot on the podium loosing out by a 2min 25second margin.
In terms of the race Morrison took a lead over the first 15km run and lead into the 90km bike race but was caught and overtaken by Van Vlerken and Andrea Ratkovic. Going into the final 7.5km run Morrison was in third spot trailing by 4 minutes but after another terrific run she passed Andrea Ratkovic (of the United States) and continued to whittle down Van Vlerken's lead but despite taking eating 2 minutes into the gap had to settle for a well deserved Silver Medal.
The Scot's athlete who has often expressed a preference for Duathlon over Triathlon now finds herself the holder of two silver medals in the discipline having last year clinched a silver medal in the shorter sprint world Championships in Australia.
