Trisportnews' Steven Worthington Ready for Europeans
Wednesday, 5th July 2006
Triathlon youngster Steven Worthington is delighted with his better than expected result at the National Age Group Championships triathlon, in which he won his age group race by a clear two and a half minutes, leaving him in good shape for the forthcoming Holten Triathlon European Cup in Holland.
Steven, 20, of Lancaster, brought in a time of 2:05:48 following a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run, placing him second in the entire event, across all age groups. His initial target was to reach the top ten. He was behind in the race at the end of the swim, but a solid bike ride and run saw him through in the end.
"I'm happy with the result and my overall performance, and of course the fact that I beat my target, although I never really got into my rhythm, so there is plenty of room for improvements", says Steven.
But there is no room for respite as Steven is now fully focused on the forthcoming Holten Triathlon European Cup in Holland on July 15th.
Steven says: "After the National Age Group Championships I certainly feel confident and in good shape, although I realise that the field out there will be tougher".. He adds that a successful performance in Holland depends on "whether I can be part of the leading pack out of the water"
Stephen Worthington is a Trisportnews team member and one of two Elite atheletes that Trisportnews are supporting this year and in the coming years.. Look out for further news updates on Steven's forthcoming website.
