National Club Relays Championships

Tuesday, 8th August 2006

The annual festival of triathlon took place this weekend held at Holme Pierrepont. The main focus of the carnival atmosphere was the British Triathlon Club Relays on Saturday, followed by Pacesetters Draft legal Super Sprint and the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon on Sunday. Over 300 teams took part in the National Club Relays at Holme Pierrepont.

The purpose built Olympic size rowing lake lent itself perfectly to the Club Championships, ensuring an enclosed road circuit for the run and cycle.  With the sun blazing and crowds armed with cow bells and clappers the atmosphere was electric.  The format for the event revolved around teams of four using a tagging format where everyone swims 400m, everyone bikes 15km and everyone runs 5km.

The morning wave encompassed the female and mixed team competitions, and with a slight change to the format of the event after a medical incident, the female based teams started the cycle in a time trial starting 10 seconds apart. BRAT took the morning wave in their stride by snatching two of the three British Championships available. Further congratulations should extend to excellent work of the emergency services, water sport staff, marshalls, Pacesetters Events and indeed to all teams who were very understanding and compassionate. We are pleased to hear David racing for SLH Tri Club is on the mend and wish him a speedy recovery.

The afternoon wave saw the battle of the men with some excellent racing to bring the first team in after a 1600m swim, 60km bike and 20km run in a time of two hours and fifty one minutes. The honours for fastest male team went to TNF Orca Racing, whilst in the Vet category the BRAT Males Vet 'A' inspired by their ladies victory earlier in the day took the national championship in the older category.
