London Triathlon Junior Elite

Wednesday, 30th August 2006

After recovering from the crash at Windsor I felt positive about a good performance at London. As it was such a big event I went down two days before to familiarise myself with the course.

The day before the race I was really lacking in energy after going for a 15min run. I put it down to training a bit too hard after the crash and went to bed early. That morning just getting up and driving to the venue made me very tired but I was here so I decided to give it my best shot.

Being cheered when being introduced to the crowd lifted my spirits. The start of the swim went OK but in the latter stages of the swim I felt shattered. T1 went very quickly, once I was on the bike my heart rate was through the roof, I was unable to bring it down to a sensible beat and was forced to retire on the bike after 8km.

Very disappointed after the race I made a decision to take a week off completely and try and get well for my next event.

Shortly before his 17th birthday, Jonathan Pryke took up triathlon, and following his previous swimming and biking successes, he worked hard on his running. County representation at 1500m and 3000m brought a 3rd place at the National Championships in 2005

2006 saw another advance, into the BTA National Performance Centre in Leeds, where he started his first full Triathlon season with a dedicated Triathlon Coach and specific training.
