Trisportnews' Athlete Steven Worthington Enjoys a Positive Experience

Sunday, 17th September 2006

Steve Worthington racing for Trisportnews this yearTriathlon youngster and Trisportnews Elite athlete, Steven Worthington, is this week positively reflecting on his successful 2006 season, which has culminated in 15th position at the ITU Elite World Aquathlon Championships in Lausanne, up against the worlds best.

Worthington, of Lancaster, still only 20, also wore the Great Britain jersey for the first time, which ended the race following a 1km swim and a 5km sprint run.

He says: 'Coming out of the water I was just behind the leading group, which is frustrating because I had been level with some of these guys in swims earlier in the season.'

The most heartening aspect for Steven, at this early stage in his career, was the whole Lausanne experience. He says: 'The whole place was buzzing, particularly at the bottom end of the town. There were bikes everywhere and you knew something big was going on. Being part of that was awesome, and makes me want to come back here and succeed'.

Experience has been a key word for Steven this season. He has made a foray into the elite scene at the London Triathlon and National Aquathlon Championships in Salford amongst others, with some impressive debut performances at this level.

Commenting on his progress, Steven says: 'I have enjoyed the schedule of focused races and training blocks. On a technical note, I think I will enter the water more aggressively from now on. I also think that I run stronger when running in a group'.

Look out for Steven's Home Page launching this autumn which will provide insights, news and an Elite diary.
