Sunday, 3rd September 2006
The city of Salford finds out tomorrow whether it has been successful in attracting another major sporting event to Britain in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in London.
The destination of the 2010 BG Triathlon World Championships will be decided tomorrow (MONDAY 4 SEPTEMBER) in Lausanne. Members of Salford's bid team, including Councillor Merry, Leader of Salford City Council, have been involved in a series of presentations this week in the lead up to tomorrow's crucial decision.
He commented: 'Having successfully hosted four successive World Cup events we are confident that Salford has a proven track record. A great deal of preparation and hard work has been invested in the World Championships bid as this would be an incredible coup for the city, should Salford be selected as the 2010 host.'

Andrea Whitcombe is highly fancied having won the London Triathlon last month, beating in form New Zealander Sam Warriener, who won the World Cup race in Salford on 30 July.
Britain's future stars, including Will Clarke and Olly Freeman go in the under 23 race and will be hot prospects for the gold medal.
