Rising in the East: Dan Plews Starts his New Adventure in Earnest
Thursday, 14th September 2006
Triathlete Daniel Plews has made a strong start in new territory following his move to Singapore over the summer.
Plews, 23, from Halifax, has recently won a trail race in Malaysia and come 6th behind stern competition in the Desaru Pengerang International Distance Triathlon, which took place last weekend.
Plews won the Pulai Beach Trail Race, played out in Malaysia's typical tropical humidity with a time of 3:12:35 (3hours, 12 minutes and 35 seconds) following a 2km swim, 60km bike and 15km run.
It was a much hotter day at the Desaru Long Distance race, where Dan was also up against some tough opposition. Dan finished an agonising 10 seconds outside the top 5 in 6th position.
On this latest race, Dan says: 'In all it was a good race, but the hardest I have ever competed in. The heat was very difficult. It was 36ºC on the run!!'
Following an injury plagued 2005 season, Dan has been resurgent this year. He will spend the 2007 season in Singapore. He is spending his time in whilst also working offering top level triathlon coaching.
