Record Numbers for ASICS Kingston Running Festival

Wednesday, 27th September 2006

Record breaking numbers are anticipated to take to the streets at the 16th Annual Running Festival, on Sunday 8 October, with over 2,000 runners already entered.

The event, renowned for attracting of all ages and levels of ability including elite athletes and fun runners, offers a 8.2 and 16 mile course over a flat and scenic looped course, making it achievable for anyone looking for a challenge.

Starting at 8am the race weaves its way over Kingston Bridge, along the Thames towpath taking in famous landmarks including Hampton Court providing ample spectator viewing points.

Race Director of Organisers Human Race, John Lunt, said "it is fantastic to see so many runners entered again this year. Whilst the event does attract some very good club and endurance runners our aim is to attract newcomers to the sport and to make running achievable for everyone whatever your level of fitness. We couldn't run the event without the support of Kingston, and they contribute to make the event such a local success."

This endurance event is perfect for marathon training and particularly popular for New York and Dublin Marathon competitors as it fits perfectly with their training schedule, has accurate mile markers for pace judgment and is a great warm up for the big day. Many runners will be supporting Leukaemia Research Fund, the official charity for the event, who are anticipating to raise £30,000.
