Chair of British Triathlon to Step Down at End of Month
Saturday, 20th January 2007
The Chair of British Triathlon, Jasmine Flatters, will be stepping down from her role at the end of January as the British Triathlon Association undergoes modernisation and transforms into the British Triathlon Federation. Jasmine Flatters commented that:
"It has been an honour and a privilege to have been the final Chair of the BTA these past two years. The Board has faced many challenges, but we have worked well together to overcome them and to achieve modernisation for the sport.
"I am proud of our many achievements: enhanced services to members; better communications; greater inclusiveness; improved openness and transparency and the cultivation of unity in the wider triathlon community. I feel that I am leaving the sport in a stronger position - we have seven current World Champions; our first premier sponsor, Corus; a highly regarded World Cup event in Salford; one of the strongest age group programmes in the world and triathlon is the fastest growing sport in the UK."
Although no longer acting as the Chair for British Triathlon, Jasmine will continue with her roles on the International Triathlon Unions Credentials Committee, as an Executive Board Member of the European Triathlon Union and on the International Committee of British Triathlon. Undoubtedly Jasmine will also continue to be a familiar figure in attendance at major events, especially supporting the age group athletes.
Sarah Springman OBE, the new President and Chair of the British Triathlon Federation, commented:
"We recognise with gratitude Jasmine's outstanding contribution and commitment to our sport, in recent years as a Board member nationally and internationally, and of course in her many other roles. We wish her all the very best for the future, and are delighted that she will continue to contribute elsewhere within the sport and be able to find time to work with us on the International Committee. Personally, I have truly appreciated her guidance during this last challenging year".
