First Ascent to Sponsor British Triathlon

Wednesday, 7th February 2007

The new British Triathlon Federation Board of Directors met for the first time in Loughborough over the weekend for an intensive two day session, signalling the completion of British Triathlons modernisation programme.

The occasion also initiated a new two year sponsorship agreement with leadership development and team performance improvement company, First Ascent, offering free training and support in developing the Board members' skills and effectiveness in their voluntary roles.

First Ascent have been established for over 10 years, working with a range of organisations to improve performance through helping business people understand the team dynamics within a working environment. Passion for sport is a key ingredient shared amongst their principals and associates.

First Ascent have signed a two year contract with British Triathlon valued at £40,000, to allow the Board to take advantage of this stimulating and productive experience. Senior staff will also benefit from these opportunities, which will enhance the communication and transfer of ideas between the strategic and operational levels.

The sponsorship will focus on four target areas throughout the two year deal:

1.    To help the British Triathlon Board to reach its potential, aiming to deliver world class governance in all of the key areas that are the responsibility of the Federation.

2.    To provide personal leadership development benefits to the Board members.

3.    To reinforce cross functional team working across British Triathlon, through enhancing understanding, trust and respect between all members of the team.

4.    To identify potential leadership process improvements within the organisation of British Triathlon.

Sarah Springman, British Triathlons President, commented:

"London 2012 has raised the bar for all British National Governing Bodies. Combined with our switch of responsibilities as a Federation to our three members, Triathlon England, triathlonscotland and Welsh Triathlon, and following on from our dedication to world class performances from all of our elite athletes, it is time that we commit to make a step change in the way we govern the sport too. First Ascent have already challenged us, and will continue to do so, as we evolve as a team. We welcome the opportunity!"
