Lang and Raw racing in Hungary this weekend
Tuesday, 7th August 2007
kerry Lang and Vanessa Raw are Britain's sole representatives at this Sunday's BG Triathlon World Cup race in Tiszaujvaros, Hungary.
The World Cup circuit comes to Hungary for its eleventh successive year, but the local crowds are yet to witness a British winner, although Steph Forrester, Andrew Johns and Leanda Cave have each acquired bronze medals.
In the women's competition there have been seven different winners from the ten races, with Portugal's Vanessa Fernandes stepping onto the top step four times. However Fernandes won't be racing in Hungary, and so the likely medal winners are expected to come from Emma Moffatt (Australia), Joelle Franzmann (Germany), Debbie Tanner (New Zealand) and Samantha Warriner (New Zealand).
Both Lang and Raw can also expect to be in the thick of the action as they are renowned for their strong swimming ability, which should see them exit in the front pack onto the bike stage. Lang enters the race having finished 22nd at Salford a fortnight ago, whilst Raw returns to action after a two month lay off from competition following a foot injury.
The men's race should see an interesting battle between Salford winner Javier Gomez from Spain and France's Frederic Belaubre. Further competition can be expected in the form of Russia's Alexander Brukhankov and South Africa's Hendrik De Villiers.
