Paul Amey Hits Podium in Mooloolaba

ITU Mooloolaba World Cup, Australia, 1 May 2005 Great Britain's Paul Amey placed third in today's ITU World Cup race held in Mooloolaba, Australia. Amey whose season and Olympic aspirations were ruined when he came off his bike in training last year sustaining a serious fracture returned to competition in fine form. The race was won by Australian, Simon Thompson, in 1:58:38 from fellow countryman, Courtney Atkinson in 1:59:05. Amey finished in 1:59:35 and Olympic Champion Hamish Carter was 7th in 2:01:13 Michelle Dillon was the first British woman to finish one place off the winners' podium, placing 4th in 2:12:37. Andrea Whitcombe finished in 7th place in 2:13:39. The first three places in the women's race were taken by Australian's Loretta Harrop (2:08:26), Emma Snowsill (2:10:11) and Annebel Luxford (2:11:39).
