Lessing Drops Out After Promising Start

Saturday, 15th October 2005
Simon Lessing, Great Britain's former World Champion, got off to a promising start in today's Ford Ironman Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, but was unable to sustain his effort dropping out during the run. Lessing was one of the leaders in the swim and featured strongly in the early stages of the cycle. He started to lose ground in the latter half of the bike leg entering transition in 36th place. There was to be no respite for Lessing who then decided to drop out during the run.
