Age Groupers Take Home the Spoils

Monday, 4th September 2006
British Triathlon took the largest Age-Group team to the Triathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland and will be going home with a great array of medal success. 291 athletes made the trip, having qualified from events at Wakefield, Ellesmere and Oakham. The team hotel, the Movenpick, has been jammed full of the keen triathletes and they have brought a touch of Britain to the shores of Lake Geneva. British team managers, Barry Frost and Wendy Easter, can be very pleased and very proud of their team performance. Chrissie Wellington took the fastest women's time of the day, with Fiona Ford in fifth. Truly spectacular performances, and perhaps the Elites should be looking over their shoulders. Britain took 14 Age-Group medals away from Lausanne, finishing second on the medal table behind the USA with 30, but ahead of France with 12 and Canada and Germany on 9.
