Nick Saunders 5th at Ironman New Zealand
Saturday, 3rd March 2007
Britain's Nick Saunders made his start to the year as he took fifth position behind world class opposition at Ironman New Zealand. Cameron Brown from New Zealand took victory on home turf, and his sixth win on the course. Having moved up from third to first on the run, the New Zealander accelerated away at 38km on the run to win by less than a minute in a time of 8:26:33. Australia's Luke Bell was second with Torbjörn Sindballe of Denmark in third. Saunders finished with a time of 8:57:31, which will hopefully guarantee himself a slot for the Ironman World Championships at Kona, Hawaii.
